Catarina Branco • b. 1974 Born in São Miguel, Catarina Branco holds a degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. She lives and works in Ponta Delgada, where she also teaches. Her artistic language evolves through the transformation of hand-cut paper, rescuing cultural and religious traditions of the islands and combining them with contemporary influences. Ana Vieira • 1940–2016 Although born in Coimbra, Ana Vieira spent her childhood in São Miguel. She was considered one of the most influential artists in 20th-century Portuguese art, standing out as a pioneer in practices that cross painting, sculpture, photography, and installation.
